This weekend was the inaugural Golden Bean North America. The Golden Bean is a coffee roasters competition that is usually held in Australia. I had seen their ads in a few trade magazines.
This is a huge question. Are you the best coffee roaster in North America? North America is a huge place with many coffee roasters. It includes the United States as well as Canada. So I decided to go for it.
This was a blind taste test. They assured me each coffee would get its own code and go to a panel of judges over the course of 3 days. Judges drank many coffees over many hours during those three days. There were National and International Coffee celebrities here, previous Golden Bean winners, World Barista Cup winners, and me and my teeny tiny coffee roasting company out of Gladstone Oregon.
We walked away with 4 medals on Saturday night! Two silver and two bronze. Not too shabby for a little company with one coffee roaster and two employees. I’ve always thought my coffee was great (I’m biased) but now international coffee experts have given Happyrock Coffee their nod of approval. Golden Bean truly was an amazing experience.
